Brian Mushimba didn't grow up in privilege. He grew up in Kankoyo.
He knows what it means to wake up in a Copperbelt compound and watch your mother rise before dawn to set up her market table - not because she wanted to, but because she had to. He carried that with him. The weight of it. The dignity of it.
What saved him - what saves so many Zambian children - was education. A ZCCM scholarship to Mpelembe Secondary School opened a door: but it was discipline, hard work, and faith in a better future that kept the door open.

Brian walked through that door, and kept walking, from Kankoyo to the United States, where he trained and qualified as an engineer. But he came back. When Zambia called, Brian came home. Not because it was easy. Because it was right.
He returned to serve - as an engineer, as a Member of Parliament for Kankoyo, the very constituency that shaped him, and later as a Cabinet Minister.
He is not coming to pretend that one man can magically fix everything. He is an engineer who understands that a nation, like any structure, must be built on the right foundation - with the right materials, by people who know what they are doing, accountable to the people they serve.
He grew up watching the lights go out. He became the person who knows how to keep them on.
He grew up watching families struggle for mealie meal. He became the person with a plan to make sure no Zambian family should have to.
He grew up in Kankoyo - and he never forgot it. That is who Brian Mushimba is. That is why he is running. That is why OPP exists.

What Dr. Mushimba delivered for Zambians while serving as Cabinet Minister.
For Many years, the Constituency of Kankoyo in Mufulira on the copperbelt remained without improvement in the road network which has had adverse effects on the development of the area.
Dr. Brian Mushimba implemented the 30% heavy cargo mandate via Statutory Instrument No. 7 of 2018, resulting in a 6% cargo increase for TAZARA and an 11% increase for Zambia Railways in the first half of the year. Additionally, he delivered two 120-seater passenger boats to Samfya and Nchelenge and completed modernization feasibility studies for the Port of Mpulungu. Dr. Brian Mushimba advanced the modernization of major national airports and officially transferred the management and maintenance of provincial and strategic aerodromes to the Zambia Airports Corporation Limited. Additionally, he spearheaded the revival of the country's aviation industry by signing the landmark Partnership and Shareholders’ Agreement with Ethiopian Airlines to re-establish Zambia Airways as the national carrier.
Dr. Brian Mushimba advanced rural marine logistics by delivering two 120-seater passenger boats to Samfya and Nchelenge to improve commuter safety, while successfully completing the engineering and economic feasibility studies for the modernization and upgrading of the northern Port of Mpulungu.
Dr. Brian Mushimba spearheaded the transformation of the communications sub-sector by licensing a fourth mobile provider, UZZI Zambia Limited, and allowing private broadcasting via GOtv, alongside the enactment of the ICT Association of Zambia Act No. 7 of 2018. Under his leadership, infrastructure improvements saw 656 communication towers constructed under Phase II, with 305 now operational, while the Telecommunications Traffic Monitoring System was implemented and new regulatory bills prepared for 2019.
Dr. Brian Mushimba launched the Mushimba Academic Scholarship Fund in March 2018, distributing K236,000 to fully cover school tuition fees, uniforms, and learning materials for approximately 200 vulnerable and orphaned students from Grade 10 to Grade 12 across 10 local schools, including Butondo and Kankoyo Primary Schools.

After earning his engineering qualifications in the United States, Dr. Mushimba returned to Zambia and worked his way up through the energy sector to senior executive leadership. He understands Zambia's power infrastructure not from a politician's briefing note - but from years of hands-on professional practice.
That is why, when he says Zambia can have reliable power, he is not making a promise - he is stating an engineering conclusion.
Dr. Brian Mushimba’s engineering journey began in the United States, where he worked for Siemens Power Generation in Atlanta as an Electrical Instrumentation and Controls Engineer, Design Engineer, and Commissioning Engineer. In these roles, he contributed to the commissioning and optimisation of power generation systems, helping to bring electricity infrastructure online efficiently and safely. His work reportedly supported projects that added substantial generation capacity to the power grid, giving him first-hand experience in how reliable electricity systems are designed, implemented, and sustained.
He later transitioned into industrial engineering and heavy manufacturing through Lafarge, one of the world’s leading cement producers. At Chilanga Cement in Zambia, he served as Engineering and Maintenance Manager, overseeing plant operations, equipment reliability, maintenance systems, and production efficiency. His leadership in industrial operations exposed him to the realities of energy demand in manufacturing and the importance of dependable power supply in driving economic productivity.
Dr. Mushimba further strengthened his expertise in the energy sector through senior leadership roles with Pratt & Whitney Power Systems, where he worked as an Aeroderivative Gas Turbine Product Line Manager. There, he managed advanced power-generation technologies and energy assets, combining technical engineering knowledge with strategic systems management to improve performance and operational reliability.
His experience later expanded into regional energy leadership with Eskom, Africa’s largest power utility, where he served in technical and executive roles in Uganda. In these positions, he oversaw electricity operations, infrastructure management, and technical performance across energy systems. This experience gave him practical insight into the challenges and opportunities involved in delivering reliable electricity across developing economies.
Before entering public service, Dr. Mushimba also worked in regional power development and investment through energy-focused institutions such as SN Power and GL Africa Energy, helping shape energy strategies and electricity generation projects across Africa. His career reflects not only technical competence but also executive experience in managing complex energy systems, infrastructure projects, and engineering teams.
For Dr. Mushimba, reliable power is not merely a political ambition - it is an achievable engineering outcome, backed by years of professional experience in designing, managing, and improving energy systems.
